Homemade Mango Lassi

Hey Everybody,

this summer I made my first homemade “Mango Lassi”.
Usually I am drinking “Mango Lassi” at Asian Restaurants, but now I have the recipe to make my own at home. A perfect drink for the hot weather!

Here is the recipe for 1 glas (200 ml)

You need:

Yoghurt (100 ml)
Mango Pulp (from an Asia Shop) (80 ml)
water (20 ml)
lemon juice (half lemon)
peppermint leaves (for decoration)

Mix it all and decorate the glas with some peppermint leaves,
finally add some ice and a straw.

Cherry Blossom Festival – Washington D.C.

Hey Everybody,

I have been MIA for some weeks now, but I am back to share my very first lifestyle/Inspiration post. I have moved from the Midwest to the East Coast and with all the moving and starting my new position at work I have been quite busy, but nonetheless I have had many opportunities to visit D.C. The first time I visited D.C. was back in 2003 and since then I have been coming back several times, to either just walk down the National Mall or to visit Museums.

However, I always told myself to come back and visit D.C. in the springtime. I was watching an episode of the “Amazing Race” on CBS, where the contestants visited D.C. as their last stop. At that time it was spring, and one of their stops in D.C. was around the Tidal Basin by the Thomas Jefferson Memorial AND all the Cherry Blossom Trees were in full bloom; it looked so beautiful that I had to come back around that time.

It all started in 1912 when Japan presented the Cherry Blossom Tree as a gift of friendship to the US. Over decades since 1912 thousands of Cherry Trees have been planted around Washington D.C. There are 12 different varieties. The first Cherry Blossom Festival was held in 1935.

The weather was amazingly warm and the Cherry Trees were just beautiful, the Magnolia Trees are blooming at the same time as well (See picture). The only downside was that towards the end of the day it was just absolutely packed with people. So I would recommend to go in the mornings, the trees are still in full bloom for the next several days, don’t miss it! I will definitely plan a trip next spring again. I believe that especially nature is an amazing inspiration to design and fashion, it is amazing to just go outside take in the fresh air and just be inspired. It is a good reset button from your work week! Enjoy spring…

Chicago Bulls Pillow

I have a friend, who travels a lot and after each trip I get a present from the country he was. Once he went to Thailand and bought for me a little Buddha from a tempel, on his trip to Brasil he provided a necklace for me, made by people from Amazon. So therefore I try to bring for him also something special from my vacation trip. On my last trip I went to Chicago, USA. I had my eyes open, but I didn´t find the right gift for my friend. Sometimes it is really hard to make a decision. One day, I went to a fabric store and find this Chicago Bulls Fabric, so I became the idea to sew something unique for him. My friend plays Basketball therefore he is a NBA Fan.
I decided to sew a pillow for his apartment and he loved it, that makes me really happy.

Grey to Grey: New Blouse for the spring time

More and more people starts making clothes by themselves. And the numbers are still growing. Just in my surrounding more friends telling me, that they bought a sewing machine because they want also to sew some things.
That makes me quite happy, because I know that hobbies like that makes you come down from your work life.
When someone is showing me the first project, I am asking the person how did they feel, when they hold the first finished project in the hands. The answer is every time the same: “Happy und lucky.”
Yes, that is also the feeling I had, when I finished my blouse.

I chose a pattern from the magazine “Easy Burda” (Spring/Summer 2014).
That blouse has raglan sleeves, which I really like. In the originally pattern is it quite short, as you can see in the picture from the magazine. With a different fabric I made the blouse longer.
(For our German readers here is a link where you can buy this magazine.)

Sewing project: Red Coat

This days the sun is shining more and more and I realize that I can not see my dark winter jacket anymore, I need some color.

In the “CUT Magazin” I found this coat pattern. A pattern which is not to difficult.
“CUT” is a magazine about crafting, sewing and other DIY ideas. A magazine made by love and published 2 times a year. You can buy it in the newspaper shop (in Germany) or order one online on the homepage: http://www.cut-magazine.com/magazin/

Prototyp 1

CUT introduce us in every magazine one fashion label and shows the designer behind. In additional, you can find also one pattern of the designer in the magazine.
This time they talking about the label “ETHEL VAUGHN”, a label from Hamburg, Germany.
Kadda, the designer of ETHEL VAUGHN, calls her style as “urban streetstyle”.
When you check out her homepage you will find for example sweatshirt with really cool all over prints. Here the Link: http://ethelvaughn.com

Scuba was used for the coat in the magazine, I decided to choose wool for my coat and for me it was important, that the fabric has a bold colour. As you can see I took red:

As I already told, the pattern is really not to difficult. Buy the magazine and make the coat also to your new sewing project.

If you finished the coat, send us a picture or link us on Instagram with @wiebkeandlara.
I am looking forward to your pictures.

See you next time! Lovely Greetings!
